Indian Players miss Sri Lankan Premier League

The BCCI, Board of Control for Cricket in India, has refused Indian cricketers to participate in the Sri Lanka Premier League. The reason of refusal is given that a Singapore-based private company, Somerset Entertainment Ventures is organizing the event in place of the Sri Lanka’s Cricket Board. Indian Cricket Board considers that the player contracts, issued by Somerset Entertainment Ventures, could lead to difficulties for the players in the near future.

As per BCCI, the decision was taken to defend the players from finding themselves in a difficult situation. If any mistake occurs there, then Sri Lanka Cricket would not be responsible for that so the BCCI may not like to take risk. They also said that the decision to stop Indian participation in the league has not been concerned with the pressure that was applied in April and May by the Sri Lankan Sports ministry and the Sri Lanka Cricket, to recall top Sri Lankan players, who were participating in the IPL, earlier than England tour of Sri Lanka.

12 Indian players, Dinesh Karthik, Irfan Pathan, Munaf Patel, Manoj Tiwary, Manish Pandey, Praveen Kumar, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Saurabh Tiwary, Umesh Yadav, Vinay Kumar, and Paul Valthaty, are desired to take part in the Sri Lanka Premier League. They had asked BCCI for No-Objection Certificates to play in the two-week long Twenty20 competition, which will be started on July 19, but they did not get permission.

After the decision of the Indian Cricket board, the SLC top brass called for an emergency committee conference to talk about it. The SLPL will be started from 19 July 2011 -  4 August 2011 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Australian and Pakistani players will play in inaugural premier league of Sri Lanka Cricket. Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Daniel Vettori, Kevin O'Brien, Herschelle Gibbs and Shahid Afridi have been already confirmed to play the tournament.
