Paul Chandrashekar Valthaty is from a Telugu Christian family and has done schooling from Don Bosco High School (Borivali). In the Indian Premier League 4, the Podar College youngster Valthaty shine with both batting and bowling. A little known 27-year-old Mumbai cricketer, Paul Valthaty is the fast emerging player as the long-sought solution for all-rounder's spot in the cricket team of India. Till now, Paul Valthaty had a nondescript career.

Paul Valthaty was chosen for the Under-19 World Cup with the likes of Irfan Pathan and Parthiv Patel in 2002. During the game against Bangladesh in the Under-19 World Cup, his eye was injured which halted his development. So, he couldn't build the breakthrough into senior cricket for few years. In 2006, he obtained only one chance for Mumbai, a one-dayer. After that in IPL season 2, Valthaty was punted by Rajasthan Royals and had played a couple of matches. He also earned a place in Mumbai's Twenty20 side where he gave some powerful performances. In IPL 2011, he has received a contract with Kings XI Punjab.

In the Indian Premier League 4, Paul Valthaty gave his excellent performance against champions Chennai Super Kings. On Wednesday, 13th April, 2011 at Mohali, he scored 120 not out in 63 deliveries as the Kings XI Punjab pursued the 189-run target with five balls to spare and six wickets. It was the first quick century of IPL 2011 and 13th of the overall IPL.

In the second match against Deccan Chargers, he took four valuable wickets just by giving 29 runs and achieved the best bowling figures for Kings XI Punjab bowler. After that, when he came for batting, he recorded 75 runs in just 47 balls by hitting 5 sixes and 8 fours on the ground. All-round performance of Paul resulted in a big win for Kings XI Punjab.

The new hero of the 2011 season of the IPL, Valthaty is a worthy all-rounder and came into limelight as a superhero after his stunning, all-round back-to-back performances against the former champion and the defending champion of IPL, Deccan Chargers and Chennai Super Kings. With all-round performance, he got the man of the match award for two times and afterward earned the orange cap for being the recent highest run getter in the IPL-2011 tournament.

Based on just two matches that he played, one cannot judge this young cricketer as India's future All-rounder star. By observing his cricketing skills and body language, it may be safely supposed that he is certain to make it big very soon. There are so many matches remained in the IPL-4 and this will provide him an ample chance to expose his more hidden talents.
