2012 SLPL Schedule and Fixture

SLPL (Sri Lanka Premier League) which was expected to schedule in July 2011 is now going to take place in August 2012. The official announcement of 2012 SLPL was made by Sri Lanka Cricket on 14th May at a media conference. SLPL is the franchise-based Twenty20 domestic cricket competition in Sri Lanka. The inspiration of SLPL is the Indian Premier League. The reasons behind the delay of the SLPL 2011 are insufficient finances and unavailability of Indian players. On 5th May, a new deal has been signed by Sri Lanka Cricket with Somerset Entertainment Ventures to organize the tournament systematically.

Sri Lanka Premier League teams List & Format

A new franchise-based Twenty20 tournament was introduced by Sri Lanka Cricket called Sri Lanka Premier League by taking an inspiration from Indian Premier League in 2011. Unfortunately, SLC postponed the league last year due to the non-participation of the Indian cricketers. This year would be the inaugural season of the premier Twenty20 cricket competition in Sri Lanka. Finally, Sri Lanka Cricket is very glad to announce the emergence of Sri Lanka Premier League. Probably, it would be organized between the dates of August 10 to August 31. It is announced that the inaugural program will be held at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy and R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

T20 Cricket World Cup 2012: Full Schedule & dates for Qualifier Round

The T20 Cricket World Cup 2012 is scheduled to be held from 18th September to 7th October in Sri Lanka. Before that, 16 teams will fight for qualifying the tournament, among which only six will be selected to play in the T20 world cup. The schedule for T20 Cricket World Cup 2012 Qualifiers has already been released. All 16 teams have been classified into two groups. Group A includes Bermuda, Canada, Denmark, Hong Kong, Nepal, Netherlands and Papua New Guinea (PNG) while Italy, Kenya, Namibia, Oman, Scotland, USA and Uganda are included in Group B.

Sri Lanka Premier League finally Cancelled

The Sri Lankan Premier League, which was expected to be held in this July, has been finally cancelled for this year after facing a series of problems such as the unpredicted withdrawal of Indian players owing to a ban enforced by the Indian cricket authorities. However, the Sri Lankan board has taken the verdict to feature the Sri Lankan Premier League to the next year. In place of the Sri Lankan Premier League, the owners of the league will held the regular inter-provincial Twenty20 tournament, including 5 domestic sides exclusive of foreign players.

Indian Players miss Sri Lankan Premier League

The BCCI, Board of Control for Cricket in India, has refused Indian cricketers to participate in the Sri Lanka Premier League. The reason of refusal is given that a Singapore-based private company, Somerset Entertainment Ventures is organizing the event in place of the Sri Lanka’s Cricket Board. Indian Cricket Board considers that the player contracts, issued by Somerset Entertainment Ventures, could lead to difficulties for the players in the near future.

Sri Lanka Premier League starts without Auctions

The Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL) is set to be played from 19 July to 4 August in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan Premier League is the newest addition to the growing number of Twenty20 leagues across the world. After IPL (Indian Premier League), players will get another chance to play in jumbo Premier league which will be started by Sri Lanka cricket board as “Sri Lanka Premier League”. SLPL 2011 will be Sri Lanka’s first premier league conducted for 18 days from 19th July 2011 to 4th August 2011. Total 7 teams will participate in SLPL 2011 that is Basnahira Bears, Nagenahira Nagas, Kandurata Kites, Uthura Oryxes, Ruhuna Rhinos, Wayamba Wolves, and Uva Unicorns. All team have privileges to add only 5 overseas players in their team. The seven team will play total 24 matches, which will be telecasted live worldwide.
